College is stressful to most students for many different reasons. For me, trying to juggle my family and work while also doing well in school is the biggest stressor. I started college in Fall 2009, and I found out I was pregnant near the end of the semester. Of course I was already stressed out about finals, but when you add an unplanned pregnancy at 18 on top of that, you might guess that I had an overload of stress on my shoulders.
I took some time off school, was a stay-at-home mom, and built up my motivation to get back into school. A year and a half later, I am a full-time mom, student, and employee with no funds for daycare and one car that I share with my husband. The most stressful thing to me is getting to and from class while making sure there is someone to watch my son. If I can’t find a babysitter, I can’t go to class which can really affect my grades.
Most college students probably have more traditional things to worry about. Should I write this paper due tomorrow or go to Starbucks with the cute boy I met in class? Should I check D2L, or should I check my Facebook? We all struggle to stay motivated at some point, but with a cute one-year-old running around, it’s even harder for me.
