The Lord’s Supper

Most people are so caught up with the easter bunny and all the eggs and chocolate, they forget the whole reason Easter is even a holiday. Easter actually starts tonight, beginning with the Lord’s Supper. Here Jesus and his 12 disciples all ate their last meal together. As Jesus broke the bread he said, “Take, eat: this is my body.” Then he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.” The disciples did not quite understand this at first, for they could not imagine their King and Savior dying on the cross the next morning. Jesus was only trying to prepare them for what was soon to come, that he was about to die for the sins of every human being. Through this we now have a choice. We can accept his free gift of salvation, or deny it. This is what easter is really all about, that Jesus died and rose 3 days later. Not Bunnys and Chocolate!
