Tennesee ranks in the top ten for the number of teen pregnancies. The main reasons Tennesse ranks this high is because of our abstinence based sex ed classes and the social stigma surrounding contraception. Abstinence based sex ed is not effective. The only way to cut back on teen pregnancies is to teach the proper use on contraception and condoms early on (i.e. puberty). New Hampshire requires all students to have a comprehensive sex ed class. Consequently, NH has the lowest teen pregnancy rate. Where Mississippi does not require sex ed and only offers abstinence only sex ed, and has the highest teen pregnancy rate in the nation. Teen pregnancy is a problem that can easily be dealt with.
