News-Sha

News, views, and espionage- as my boyfriend smugly says. I am not much for the media these days. I would like to talk about the government control over the media for a short stint through Huxley/Orwell works 1984 and Brave New World. Really, I think Orwell was way off in his predictions. In his book, 1984, Orwell wrote that the government controlled though depriving the public of information, banning books, pain, and being transformed into a captive culture. Huxley wrote in Brave New World that the people would be controlled by the government through pleasure. That there was no reason to ban books because the people did not read books. That the people would be given so much information that they would be reduced to passivity and egotism. There would be no real concealing of the truth because the truth would be drowned out in all the other drivel surrounding them. Instead of becoming a captive culture we would all become a trivial culture, because humans have an insatiable taste for distractions. Which one sounds more like the present generation to you?
